This orphaned otter pup, Garaint, was found at a building site in Wales. Secret World Wildlife Rescue, founded by Pauline Kidner, is currently rehabilitating Garaint and teaching him how to swim.

‘We start with a shallow bath and build it up slowly. It takes them some time to learn that they need to close their nostrils and ears when they are in the water. There’s a lot of spluttering noises at the start.

‘We put the toys in there purely for fun. Otters will often play with objects they find in the wild so it’s all about training them up for the future as much as possible.”

Because otters are sociable creatures, it’s important that they have friends to play with. Fortunately, Garaint has an 8-month-old black labrador puppy, Molly, to have fun with.
